AusLink Draft Corridor Strategies

Draft Corridor Strategies

AusLink

The Australian Government released its formal policy statement on land transport, AusLink , in June 2004 with its White Paper. The National Plan in this White Paper outlines the Australian Government's long-term approach to addressing the transport challenges with a broader network of transport corridors, including Australia's key rail links. This new AusLink National Network forms the basis of the Australian Government's investment in land transport.

AusLink is phased in with formal agreements across levels of government, the private sector and the community. A Bilateral Agreement between the Commonwealth of Australia and the State of South Australia provides the AusLink implementation framework for the South Australian government.

Draft Corridor Strategies

Corridor strategies are cooperative long-term plans that identify future transport needs on the corridor and the priorities for meeting those needs. The draft corridor strategies present a detailed snapshot of the corridor; its transport function, deficiencies and future needs and provides a blueprint for devising practical solutions to emerging transport problems.

Across Australia 24 corridor strategies are being developed for the AusLink National Land Transport Network to be released for public comment. The AusLink Network has replaced the National Highway as the principal road and rail system linking capital cities and major population centres. All the strategies will be ready by mid-2007.

The Adelaide-Darwin Draft Corridor Strategy has been released for public comment. It will inform investment decisions beyond 2009 for road and rail links forming part of the Adelaide-Darwin National Land Transport Network. To make your views known, please email comments by 9 March 2007 to corridorstrategies@dotars.gov.au

The consultation periods for the Perth-Adelaide, Adelaide Urban and Melbourne-Adelaide Draft Corridor Strategies have closed and responses received have been considered in finalising these strategies.

Public comment on the Sydney-Adelaide Draft Corridor Strategy will be sought shortly.
