Searching and navigation options
A number of search and navigation options are available from the
home page and internal pages to help you find the information and
services you are after:
1. Browsing
You can explore the site by clicking on the hyperlinked headings
that appear on the home page.
On the left-hand side of the screen there is a number of headings
containing the main content areas. A little box with an arrow is
an indication that a heading is expandable (provided that your browser
is compatible) – moving your cursor across it will expose
sub headings containing topics related to the particular category.
Each internal page has “breadcrumbs”
at the top of the page to indicate which section and sub-section
you are currently in.
2. Search / Advanced
search
You will find the site search facility on every page of the site.
It enables you to perform simple or advanced searches.
To undertake a simple search, just put in a keyword, e.g. cycling,
or a series of keywords, e.g. maps cycling
into the search box, and press the "go" key (or "enter"
key on your keyboard).
An advanced search anables you
to restrict the search results to specific criteria e.g. searching
by: title, keywords, metadata description, document type or web
address. You can also control the ranking of pages - i.e. the order
in which search results are returned, as well as the number of pages
returned.
3. Site Map
A site map, containing a textual, hyperlinked index of the site’s
contents, is provided for easy reference. You can get to the specific
site content areas by clicking the specific entries in the index.
4. Quick Links
The quick links buttons are located in the centre of the screen
on the home page. There are five links provided to enable an easy,
straightforward access to important information, such as: online
transactions, road reports and other notices.
