Rail Safety

The Rail Safety Section is responsible for promoting, maintaining and enhancing the safety and competitiveness of private and public sector railways operating in South Australia by:

  • development and implementation of strategic policy and administrative controls to promote, maintain and enhance the safety and competitiveness of private and public sector railways operating in South Australia

  • development, implementation and management of a comprehensive Safety Accreditation Scheme for railway owners and operators, to facilitate the safe operation of all private and public sector railways throughout South Australia (in accordance with the Rail Safety Act 2007)

  • provision of specialist advice and technical guidance to the Minister for Transport, senior management and the rail transport industry on specific issues relating to operational and engineering safety.
