Number Plates

From 1 October 2008 a new range of general (standard) issue number plates will be introduced for light vehicles and motor cycles.

The new plates will only be issued when the current alpha numeric plates stockpile is depleted.

You may choose between the standard general issue South Australia number plate or, for an extra fee, choose one of the special plates available.

Number plates can also be ordered by attending a Customer Service Centre.

Application to change a plate number/slogan on a vehicle registration (PDF).

Only plates made by an approved manufacturer comply with the requirements of the Motor Vehicles Act. The display of non-approved plates incurs the risk of a Traffic Infringement Notice and a fine.

Plates must be visible from the front and rear of a motor vehicle and must not be obscured by a tow ball, load, plastic cover, dirt build-up or any part of the vehicle’s bodywork. Operating a vehicle in this condition renders the driver liable to receiving a Traffic Infringement Notice.
