Fines Enforcement Restriction

What is a Fines Enforcement Restriction on a Drivers Licence or vehicle registration?

The Registrar of Motor Vehicles can be ordered by a court to suspend your Driver’s Licence for 60 days and/or refuse to transact business with you until the overdue fine is paid.

These sanctions may be applied for any unpaid fines regardless of whether the offence is traffic related or not.

How does this affect your Drivers Licence or vehicle registration?

The court will print and post a notice to you. A 60 day licence suspension commences 21 days from when the Registrar of Motor Vehicles receives the order from the court. You may not drive unless the fine is paid or cleared by the court.

Where the court has issued an order to restrict transactions from you, the Registrar of Motor Vehicles cannot process registration and/or licence transactions from you or on your behalf until either the penalty is paid or cleared by the court.

How can you pay or clear the penalty?

To pay a penalty or to discuss options to clear the penalty, you may

  • apply to Fines Payment Unit
      PO Box 6589 Halifax Street
      Adelaide 5000
  • apply to a local court
  • telephone the Easy Pay Fines Call Centre on 1800 659 538
  • pay the total amount recorded by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to a Customer Service Centre.
